- No limitation on starting age - if your child can ride a bike we will get them racing.
What happens at Club Training & Race Nights
- Everyone is put into ability groups, so if you are just starting out, you will be placed in a group with others who are also trying out the sport or of a similar age and ability as you.
- Up to eight can race at one time in a gate, so remember to bring friends with you.
- Training sessions last one hour
- At times training nights will be club race nights, but watch our facebook page for training updates this is the best place to keep updated.
- Watch Facebook for cancellations.
Who can race?
- Anyone can race, no age restrictions- if you can ride, you can race. We have riders from 4 to 50 participating.
What will I need?
- To begin with, you won't need a whole lot of equipment. Basically you'll need a BMX bike which is mechanically sound and safety pads on the bike are a good idea. Try our race bikes to get advise for size and fit.
- Make sure all the bolts are tight, as well as your chain. It is recommended to have your seat post put right down
- Also check your grips and make sure that the handle bar ends are covered.
What should I wear?
- Just come prepared with a long sleeve top and trousers or jeans.
- Bring your helmet and wear shoes that have a soft sole. Some helmets are available for hire.
- Don't forget to wear socks that cover your ankles.
- Full finger gloves must be worn, even garden gloves. Your hands are normally the first thing to hit the ground if you fall off, cos we all put our hands out to save ourselves.
Club night & How it works
What happens on a club night:
"A" Grade

& so on
However if you race in the first 3 motos in the "A" grade, there are bonus points for your finishing position.
No points in the 4th moto, this is a seeding round for your lane pick in the last moto.
Bonus points for position first 3 motos;
Position Points
1 st 6
2 nd 5
3 rd 4
4 th 3
5 th 2
6 th 1
7 th 1
8 th 1
Conclusion: If you win the first 3 motos you get 18 bonus points and come 2nd in the 5th moto you get 99 points a total of 117 points for the night.
What happens on a club night:
- Club nights have 5 races called moto.
- 8 riders in each race.
- Riders race in groups of similar ability so you will get a mix of ages.
- Horn sounds – come over to what we call the staging area (behind the start gate).
- Someone will call out your race number & then a lane number.
- Move into the lane & get ready to race.
- If a rider comes 7th or 8th they will move down a grade.
- If a rider comes 1st or 2nd they move up a grade (unless you are in "A" grade you stay in A grade).
- So at the end of 5 motos, racers should finish to the best of their ability.
- There are points allocated for the racers position in the 5th moto, if you finish 1st in "A" grade you get 100. points 2nd 99. 3rd, 98. points & so on down the grades so "B" grade stats at 92 points, see below.

Do you want to Race in National events
- Here you need a BMXNZ race Licence and this is included in your club membership fee.
- This entitles you to race any NQM (National Qualification Meet), this is what's required to race NZ Nationals.
- Note: The NZ Nationals event, requires you to race four NQM's + one of either South Island or North Island Champs.
- You can enter as many NQM as you wish as each race meet carries national ranking points for an overall series winner each season.
- Ask a committee member about this option if interested.

the Rider Height Vs Frame size & name is what you normal look at when buying a new BMX bike.
Crank length, handlebar rise & width, Stem length & gearing can be changed to fine tune your race bike to the rider.
- Stem & handle bar high & width - this helps the rider to push & pull the front of the bike over jumps & bumps.
- Crank length - will help rider peddle faster & in better motion if crank length is correct, for there leg length.
- Gearing - depending on rider ability and strength , and track layout this can be changed in two ways.
- To create a faster top end speed bike (harder to get started, but will go faster)
- Faster bottom end bike (picks up speed fast but slower top speed)
